Richard C. Wilson, 96, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Mary Amelia McCarthy Wilson, died Tuesday evening, July 31, 2018, at his home with his family at his side.
Richard was born in Geneva, NY and was raised in Newark, N.J.?? Shortly after high school he served for more than three years aboard the USS Gladwyn, a destroyer escort that battled German Submarines in World War II.?? Richard married his high school sweetheart, Mary McCarthy on October 10, 1943.?? After the war, he began his thirty year employment for Ballatine Breweries and went to New Jersey Institute of Technology where he obtained an engineering degree.?? He then moved his family to Little Silver, NJ and later retired to Savannah for twenty-seven years.?? Richard taught Sunday school and was part of the vestry for over 50 years. This included over thirty years at St Johns Episcopal Church in Little Silver and twenty-seven years at St Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Stuart, who was a victim of the Vietnam War.
Surviving are his wife, Mary McCarthy Wilson; daughter, Leslie Patricia; and a son, Mark Daniel.
A memorial service will be held August 5, 2018 at 3 o'clock in the afternoon at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope.
