Richard E. Hagan passed away peacefully at Hospice Savannah on Saturday, May 19, 2018, with his wife Susan Sharkey Hagan and family at his side.
Richard was born on Dec 6, 1947, the son of Milton Hagan and Helen Jackson Hagan. He went to Blessed Sacrament and graduated from Savannah High School in 1966. He attended Brunswick Jr. College and Armstrong State University. He worked many years for Globe Shoe Company and Welsh Installation. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 631.
Though disabled with poor vision and later total blindness, he enjoyed a full life and shared his quick wit and wicked sense of humor with all who knew him. He loved the Georgia Bulldogs, the Atlanta Braves, and the Atlanta Falcons.
He was a great conversationalist and for twenty years of total blindness he listened to books on tape from the Library of Congress. He read three books a week, one hundred and fifty books a year, over a fifteen year period. He read the bible cover to cover four times and he loved the great Russian writers. He enjoyed history and could recall from memory almost everything he read.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Hagan.
He is survived by his loving, caring and dedicated wife, Susan; mother-in-law, JoAnne Sharkey; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Belinda Hostetter, Cathy Odom (Jim), Chris Sharkey, Kelly Coryell (Jim), Bobbi Jo Gillis (Med), Nicole Miller (Rich); sisters, Camille Owens, Marcia Hagan, Mary Ellen Sullivan (John); brothers, Earl Hagan (Beth), Ross Hagan and Jeff Hagan (Heather Shelton) and sister-in-law, Anne Hagan.
The visitation will be from 6 until 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
