SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Reuben "Ruby" Grunin, 92, of Savannah, Georgia, died Thursday morning January 13, 2011, at the home of his sister and under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late Meyer Grunin and the late Celia Plotkin Grunin. Mr. Grunin was a member of Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob. He attended the City College of New York. Mr. Grunin was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II and was an active member of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States of America - Post 320. He was a retired pawn broker for B and B Pawn Shop. Mr. Grunin won several tournaments as a handball player at the Jewish Educational Alliance. He was a former member of The Order of the Knights of Pythias. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joel Grunin and Israel Grunin.
Surviving are two sisters, Bertha Grunin Lamhut and her husband, Morris H. Lamhut, and Martha Grunin Gincel, all of Savannah, Georgia; three nieces, Minnie Katz, Faye Brill and Sherry L. Spevack; one nephew, Lester Lamhut; one great-niece, Janine Spevack, and two great-nephews, Mark Brill and Louis Jacob Spevack.
The funeral service will be held at 12:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
The family will sit Shiva at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Bertha and Morris Lamhut - 213 East 66th Street.
