Raymond Eugene Tarpley, 84, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Sandra 'Sandy' Olivia Duckworth Tarpley, died Wednesday morning, April 13, 2022, at his home and under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice.
Born in Lithonia, Georgia, he was the son of the late Harley Emerson Tarpley and the late Lillie Mae Jones Tarpley. Mr. Tarpley was an active member of Pooler First Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard. After working at Chatham Steel for 25 years he started building homes, which, with the exception of his family, was his greatest passion. Mr. Tarpley loved his church, his family, telling jokes and making people laugh, and fishing. Even through tough times he kept his faith and his positive attitude. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Vivian, Barbara, Geneva, and Angela, and many step-sisters and step-brothers.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Sandra 'Sandy' Olivia Duckworth Tarpley; one daughter, Joyce Tarpley McAllister and her husband, Scott; one son, Jimmy Eugene Tarpley; two grandchildren, Brandi Tarpley Bittner and her husband, Shawn, and Morgan Ellzey Marie and her husband, Chris; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Ryleigh, and Noah; his sister-in-law, Pamela Duckworth Fowler, and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12 until 1:30 Saturday afternoon, April 16, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 1:30 Saturday afternoon, April 16, 2022, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Dr. James N. Staubes. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey ' West.
