Raymond "Harry" Lane

Raymond Harris 'Harry' Lane, who was born in Savannah on December 1, 1941, died July 9, 2013 at Hospice Savannah.
Harry was the son of Remer Y. Lane and Louise Harris Lane. He grew up on Combahee Plantation in White Hall, South Carolina, attended Middlesex School for Boys in Concord, Massachusetts and Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. At Middlesex he was the first to be the captain of two sports (baseball and hockey). He graduated with honors from Vale with a degree in history. He was an expert on the War Between the States and despised Abraham Lincoln.
He was a man of many talents and vocations. He was a successful buyer and seller of wood working and shop tools, a diesel mechanic, a charter pilot, a builder of banjos and of fine furniture with customers from New York to Florida.
He traveled extensively. His favorite trips were to India, which he visited 9 times, and to London where he purchased numerous books for his collection. He was a student of the Arts.
Harry is survived by his siblings: Mills B. Lane III and his wife, Kaye, Louise Lane Talbot and her husband, Harold, Remer Y. Lane, Jr. and his wife, Susan, and Thomas Middlebrooks Lane and his wife, Dana, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A very special thanks to Diane Brannen Stafford for her love, assistance, and support for Harry during his illness as well as the staff at Hospice Savannah, Marshview Senior Living and the friends who not only visited, but stayed with him in the hospital, at Marshview and at Hospice.
