Raymond 'Ray' Norton Hord, 70, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Sandra 'Sandy' Cannon Hord, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday afternoon, April 6, 2022, with his devoted and loving wife by his side. Raymond was a kind and loving husband and a friend to all people.
Raymond is survived by his wife, Sandra C. Hord; his 'bonus' daughter, Morgan Matte and her husband, Jacob, and their daughter, Molly; and his brother-in-law, Clyde McCampbell Wester, Jr.
Raymond was predeceased by his mother and father, Margaret Jewel Smith Hord and Carl Julius Hord, and his sister, Martha Addie Hord Wester.
Raymond Hord was best known as 'Famous Ray' the owner and manager of Ray's Famous Caf?? from March 1991 to December 2004. After selling the restaurant, Ray began a new career as a Certified Building Inspector for Chatham County and the Building Official of Tybee Island before retiring in 2015.
Prior to becoming 'Famous Ray' of Ray's Famous Caf??, Ray worked in the building industry at Wickes Corporation as the Inside Sales Manager, Neal-Blun Company, Inc. as the Sales and Marketing Manager, and Espy Lumber Company, Inc. as the Sales Manager, before opening a 'Start-Up Operation' known as Trim-Tech Service, Inc., where he served as Owner and Operations manager. Ray also worked as the General Manager of Hughes-Ball Company.
Ray attended Armstrong Atlantic University majoring in Education - he loved to learn and to teach.
Ray was honorably discharged from the United States Army after serving from 1969 to 1975. Ray attended Officer's Candidate School and obtained the rank of Sergeant in BTRY C 1st BN 230th Field Artillery.
Ray, a very meticulous man, paid great attention to detail in mill working and metal fabrication. He could design and build anything.
Anyone who knew Ray knows that he loved his wife Sandy, the mountains, cooking, fly fishing, boating, hiking, motorcycles, and fast cars. Ray loved adventure. Ray loved life. Ray was a true cancer warrior who inspired many who crossed his path.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 o'clock Sunday afternoon, April 10, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning, April 11, 2022, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Dr. Quin R. Rawls. Interment, with military honors, will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
