SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Raiford Roan Cowart, 75, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Patricia "Patty" Rogers Cowart, died Tuesday afternoon, July 20, 2010 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Emanuel County, Georgia, he was a son of the late Curtis Cowart and the late Annie Mae Cowart Zipperer. Mr. Cowart was an active member of Calvary Baptist Temple, where he served as a deacon, usher, hospital visitor and member of the security team. He was also a member of the Ralph Finnegan Sunday School Class at Calvary. Mr. Cowart was a graduate of Commercial High School and was a United States Army veteran. He retired from Proctor and Gamble after a career as a lifelong salesman. Mr. Cowart was a member of Larry's Breakfast Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret and Thelma, and one brother, Johnny.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Patricia "Patty" Rogers Cowart of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Deborah Cowart Moon and her husband, Lee, of Athens, Georgia; one son, Steven Wayne Cowart and his wife, Paula, of Memphis, Tennessee; four granddaughters, Lori Moon, Erin Moon Dobbs and her husband, Matt, Jennifer Cowart Triplett and her husband, Andrew, and Stephanie Cowart, and one sister, Martha Hall and her husband, Bill, of Faulkville, Georgia.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Thursday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Friday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Reverend Wayne Watts. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
