Phyllis Lindamood Wertz, 84, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of The Reverend L. Allan Wertz, Jr., died Monday afternoon, November 18, 2013, at Memorial University Medical Center.



Born in Mount Jackson, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Lemuel Auby Lindamood and the late Catherine Lavina Miller Lindamood. Mrs. Wertz was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church. She was a former dedicated member of Faith Lutheran Church for 26 years, where her husband, Allan, served as pastor for 19 years. While at Faith, she was a member of the WELCA, head of the Christian Education, and a Sunday school teacher. She was educated in Washington D.C. and Shenandoah County, where she graduated from Triplett High School and was crowned 'Miss Triplett 1946'. Phyllis earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from James Madison University. She was a retired elementary school teacher having taught in the Shenandoah County, Virginia School District, the Morristown, Tennessee City Schools, and St. Paul's Lutheran Day School in Savannah. Mrs. Wertz was a longtime member of the Savannah-area Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. In addition to her husband of 45 years and her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Marlon Scott Green and Robert William 'Bob' Boyden.



Survivors include three daughters, Phyllis Ann Wertz Green of Savannah, Georgia, Mary Catherine Wertz Shearouse of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Sarah Elizabeth 'Libby' Wertz Boyden of Savannah, Georgia; three granddaughters, Ansley Catherine Shearouse, Brittany Elizabeth Boyden and Megan Wertz Boyden; her sister-in-law, Dr. Mary Ann Shealy and her husband, Jim, of Gilbert, South Carolina; her brother-in-law, The Reverend John E. Wertz and his wife, Cheryl, of Irmo, South Carolina, and several nieces and nephews.



The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning at Messiah Lutheran Church. Interment will be at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in Mt. Jackson Cemetery in Mount Jackson, Virginia.
