Philip John Saraf, 86, of Savannah, Georgia, died Thursday evening, June 9, 2016, surrounded by friends and family, at Hospice Savannah.
He was a well-known Savannah artist, largely self-taught, who painted from the heart and saw beauty in the world around him. He was a kind and gentle soul and believed every day was a gift from God. Chickens were a recognizable feature in many of his works, which were painted in rural settings.
He is survived by siblings Phyllis Tabakian McShane, Antoinette R. Kastensmidt, Mary Anne Fischer, Rose M. Tootle, George A. Saraf, Antoine J. Saraf, Iris Smith, and many nephews and nieces.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Tuesday morning in St. James Catholic Church conducted by Father Mark J. Ross. Interment will be private.
