Peter 'Pete' Benjamin Vasta, Jr., 77, of Savannah, Georgia and husband of Beverly Anna Barnwell Vasta, died Saturday afternoon, March 26, 2022, at Candler Hospital surrounded by his family.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of the late Peter Benjamin Vasta, Sr. and the late Martha Elizabeth Ward Vasta. Pete graduated from Benedictine Military School. He graduated from St. Leo College, where he was president of Kappa Alpha Sigma Fraternity, and from the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned his degree in Physical Therapy. Pete was a former longtime active member of White Bluff United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He was an active member of Asbury Memorial Church, where he also sang in the choir. Pete helped found the Physical Therapy Department at St. Joseph's Hospital. He retired after a forty plus year career as a home health physical therapist. Not only was Pete a physical therapist, he also offered emotional and spiritual support for many of his patients. He enjoyed spending time with his family, photography, woodworking, traveling, and antiquing.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Beverly Anna Barnwell Vasta; one daughter, Elizabeth 'Beth' Anna Vasta; two sons, David Benjamin Vasta and Michael Joseph Vasta and his wife, Leslie; one grandson, Giovanni Benjamin Vasta, and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Friday evening, April 1, 2022, at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning, April 2, 2022, at Asbury Memorial Church conducted by the Reverend William G. Hester. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
