Peter Butterfield

d. March 30, 2017

Peter Butterfield passed away March 29, his 89th birthday.

Survived by his wife, Pat Butterfield; his three children, Swindt II, Cynthia, and Peter J.; and his grandchildren Ben, Sam, and Kaitlyn May.

Peter was born in Jackson, MI. He enjoyed a childhood of summers spent at Clark Lake and Macatawa, MI, where he sailed and water skied. During the school year he attended Cranbrook prep and boarding school, and after graduating there went on to earn his degree in Physics from Brown University. He had an incredible talent for drawing and painting, but his keen mind drew him to a career in technical sales. He proudly served during WW 2 as a drafts person stationed in Europe. He met his wife, Pat, in the summer of 1950 and they married on New Year's Eve. Peter was the most honest person you could ever meet and he led his life with the greatest integrity. He instilled those values in his children, along with a lifelong curiosity to learn new things. An avid reader, he read Scientific American cover to cover well into his 80's. He shared his love of books with his children, reading Winne the Pooh, Stuart Little, and other classics aloud to them when they were young. The person he loved and trusted more than anyone in the world was his kind, devoted, and patient wife, Pat. In retirement they travelled to interesting places around the world, enjoyed summers in Michigan, and made new friends on Skidaway Island through golfing and bridge.

Peter will be buried in Michigan, the state he always called home.
