Otto Hinds, 94, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Elsa Kirk Hinds, died Friday, March 9, 2018.
Born in Columbus, Mississippi, he was a son of the late Thomas Hinds and the late Rosa Lee Livingston Hinds. Mr. Hinds was a veteran having served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He enlisted in the service at age 15 to help support his mother and siblings. Mr. Hinds was a recipient of many awards and medals including the Distinguished Unit Badge, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He met and married his wife of 72 years, Elsa Kirk Hinds, in Kettering, England in 1943. Mr. Hinds was a member of C. P. Miller Methodist Church for over thirty years, later moved his membership to Grace United Methodist Church, and then to Cokesbury United Methodist Church. He was a retired engineer having worked for CSX Railroad for many years.
Surviving are three sons, Dr. Marshall Hinds, M.D. and his wife, Debbie, of Savannah, John Hinds and his wife, Victoria, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Brian Hinds and his wife, Paula, of Lawrenceville, Georgia; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 9 until 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service. Interment, with military honors, will be in Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park - East.
