Orie Louis Lankford Futch, 94, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of 1SG Clarence William Futch, Jr., U. S. Army (Ret.), died Friday evening, December 2, 2016, at the home of her daughter surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born on April 22, 1922 in Willacoochee, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late William Benjamin Lankford and the late Fannie Lou Roberts Lankford. Mrs. Futch was a member of Christian Fellowship Church of Mud Creek in Lanier County, Georgia, and attended Montgomery Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Georgia. Mrs. Futch graduated from Waycross Senior High School in 1939, served in the United States Navy during World War II and retired from the United States Forestry Service at Fort Stewart. She was affectionately known as 'Mimi' to all that knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, by her parents and her granddaughter, Lindsay W. Smith.
Surviving are one daughter, Jill F. Whitfield and her husband, Richard, of Savannah, Georgia; one granddaughter, Raegan W. Highsmith and her husband, Tayloe, and her grandson-in-law, Daniel, all of Savannah, Georgia; two great-granddaughters, Lillian Blythe Smith and Olivia Tayloe Highsmith and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive family and friends from 6 until 7 o'clock Thursday, December 8, at Montgomery Presbyterian Church ' 10192 Ferguson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia.
A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 7 o'clock Thursday, December 8, at Montgomery Presbyterian Church conducted by The Reverend John Ruehl.
A remembrances service will be held at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2016, at Christian Fellowship Church of Mud Creek ' 1617 East Highway 64 in Lakeland, Georgia, conducted by Pastor David L. Akins.
