SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Norman Joseph "Mac" McCarthy, 85,of Savannah, Georgia, widower of Theresa Anna Furlong McCarthy, died Monday afternoon, March 15, 2010, at his home under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, he was a son of the late Norman Joseph McCarthy, Sr., the late Loretta Gaab McCarthy Bolinger, and his step father, Francis Bolinger. Mr. McCarthy was a graduate of the 1942 class of Benedictine and was a United States Army veteran having served in World War II. He married Theresa in 1948 at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Mr. McCarthy was retired from Hercules Incorporated after forty one years of service. He was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church for fifty years. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased in death by his  sister, Lanae Girardeau; step-sister, Yvonne Schobert and a step-brother, Chester Bolinger.
Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Ann McCarthy and Theresa "Terri" Ann Davis and her husband, Michael, all of Savannah, Georgia; three sons, Daniel Joseph McCarthy, Michael Joseph McCarthy and his wife, Lisa, and Patrick Joseph McCarthy and his wife, Miriam, all of Savannah, Georgia; one sister, Juanita Campbell of Atlanta, Georgia; one step-sister, Nadine Schobert of Bellville, Illinois; one step-brother, Raymond Bolinger and his wife, Lou, of Panama City, Florida; one sister-in-law, Agnes Furlong Swinson and her husband, Curtis; twelve grandchildren, Julie Hurst Jarrard, Jennifer Hurst Fell, Matthew, Kevin, Mary Allison, Justin, Jeremy, Joseph, Lauren, John, Mary Grace McCarthy, Tyler Davis; seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 until 7 o'clock Thursday at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, with the Rosary service being held at 7 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning in St. James Catholic Church  conducted by Father Mark J. Ross. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
