Norman Barry Ferst
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we make known the passing of Gladys Glesias and Aaron Ferst's son, Norman, on Sunday, November 12, 2023.
As a local native, a “Telfair” baby, he was a beloved, well-known eccentric. Everyone who knew him will most certainly agree, there was never a dull moment. With his stellar wit and keen sense of humor, he was always the life of the party. A colorful thread in the fabric of Savannah—who will be forever missed by his friends, family, and loved ones.
After graduating from Savannah High School in 1965, he honorably served his country, during the Vietnam Era, as a sergeant in the US Air Force from 1966-1970. He later graduated from Armstrong State College with both a degree in Sociology and Philosophy.
In 1976, he began his career in shipping with I.L.A., Local 1475, a career that spanned nearly four decades. All the while—he followed his passion for antiques as a purveyor of fine art, vintage books, antique furniture, and unique and handmade rugs.
His favorite topics were music, religion, politics, jokes, veteran affairs, and helping those who were less fortunate than himself. Most especially, he adored his friends, had an appreciation of nature, and loved his dogs.
He is survived by his devoted sister, Sandra F. Faircloth and her husband, Nolan; and his devoted niece, Angela F. Fowler and her husband, Jack.
A private graveside service was held by the family on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Laurel Grove North Cemetery.
He will forever be in our hearts.
The family invites you to share a remembrance with an animal welfare agency of your choice, a cause dear to his heart.
