SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Nell "Aunt Nell" Hudson Fountain Haymons, 78, of Savannah, Georgia, wife of James D. Haymons and widow of James P. Fountain, Sr., died Monday morning, November 2, 2009, at Hospice Savannah.
Mrs. Haymons was born in Clearwater, Florida, to the late Leroy Hudson and the late Melbry Usher Tootle Hudson. Mrs. Haymons was a member of Washington Avenue Christian Church and attended South Gardens Christian Church. She worked for many years as a radiologist at Memorial Hospital and was a talented writer and a loving teacher. Mrs. Haymons taught Junior Church at South Gardens Christian Church. She was active in the Police Officers Association and spearheaded the erection of the police officers monument. Mrs. Haymons also helped with the Police Athletic League. In addition to her first husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, The Reverend Jack R. Hudson.
Surviving are her husband, James D. Haymons of Savannah, Georgia; one daughter, Sharon F. Bryant and her husband, Walter Jr., of White, Georgia; three sons, James P. Fountain, Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Richmond Hill, Georgia, Stanley R. Fountain and his wife, Nancy, of Acworth, Georgia, and Gary S. Fountain and his wife, Paula, of Metter, Georgia; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Tuesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Pastor Allen Howard. Interment will be in the Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
