Nell Blackburn, 95, beloved wife, mother, sister, and Nana, passed away, Tuesday, September 12, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born on September 21, 1927, to Stella and James Kirkland in Tampa, Florida. In addition to her parents, her husband, Albert Earnest Blackburn Sr., and one brother, James Kirkland Jr., preceded her in death.
Nell was a native Savannahian and worked for H&R Block for 5 years. She then worked for various food companies as a demonstrator. She worked in the appliance department of K-Mart, as their top seller, until retirement in 1983. With a heart full of service and compassion, she served as a Pink Lady at Candler Hospital for several years. A woman of deep faith, she was first a member of Emanuel Baptist Church and then Aldersgate United Methodist Church for a total of over six decades, becoming a contributing member and leaving a legacy of love and service.
Nell loved the Lord and spent her life serving others. She will be fondly remembered for her amazing cooking, generous spirit, and beautiful smile. She believed in hard work done with excellence and was happiest spending time with family and friends. She is survived by one son, Al (Bobbie) Blackburn of Canton, Georgia, one daughter, Pam (Ken) Young of Savannah, Georgia, and one brother, Clayton (Cheryl) Joyner of Sherwood, Oregon. She has six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 o'clock Monday morning at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Ave., the celebration of life will be held at 11:00 o'clock Monday morning at Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Steven Meguiar.
