SAVANNAH, GEORGIA -Neil Joseph Fischer, Sr., 84, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Mary Ann Saraf Fischer, died Thursday morning, April 15, 2010, at Candler Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late John George Fischer and the late Catherine Margaret Gildea Fischer. Mr. Fischer was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church and was a United States Navy veteran having served in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings and two grandsons.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Mary Ann Saraf Fischer; one daughter, Kim Peters and her husband, Oliver; three sons, Neil J. Fischer, Jr. and his wife, Judy, Robert Fischer and his wife, Jayne and Steven Fischer and his wife, Gabriella; two brothers, Francis "Bootsie" Fischer and Charles "Chuck" Fischer; nine grandchildren, Christopher and Ashley Peters, Catherine, Patrice, Robert, Geoffrey, Patrick, Alexis and Mary Sophia Fischer and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, with a Rosary service at 6 o'clock in the funeral home chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 o'clock Monday morning in St. James Catholic Church conducted by Father Mark J. Ross. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
