Neil Frank Bodenstein, 93, died Thursday, January 7, 2021 in Jacksonville, FL after a brief illness. He was born in Queens, NY April 2, 1927 but raised in Madison, Baraboo, and Devil's Lake, Wisconsin.



Prior to active duty as a Seaman 1st Class in the US Navy during WWII, he worked as a laborer for Hercules Powder Company at Badger Ordnance Works. After the war, he worked summers with the Wisconsin State Highway Department. Upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin as a Civil Engineer, he was employed by Hercules Inc. for 38 years, transferring to various assignments and eventually rising to Chief Engineer at the Savannah, Georgia plant.



In Savannah he was a member of the International Management Council, President of the Savannah Fencing Club, President of Savannah Toastmasters, and a member of Grace United Methodist Church. He was a 16 Gallon Red Cross Blood Donor, an avid swimmer, sailor, and boating enthusiast. He loved travelling worldwide as well as travelling the United States by motor home.



He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Phyllis Warren Bodenstein.



Survivors include his son Paul Bodenstein (Deborah) and daughter Nancy Johnston (Frank), both of Jacksonville, FL; three grandchildren, Alex Bodenstein, Laura MacDonald, and Kathleen Johnston; one greatgrandchild, Azalea MacDonald, and several nephews.



The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 o'clock Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.



The funeral service will be held at 6 o'clock Wednesday evening, January 13, 2021, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by the Reverend Dr. Drew Corbett. Interment will be Hollywood Cemetery in Harrington, Delaware.
