Morris Hyman Lamhut, 101, of Savannah, Georgia and widower of Bertha Grunin Lamhut, died Tuesday morning, December 17, 2019.



Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was a son of the late Jacob Lamhut and the late Sarah Rebecca Greenstein Lamhut. Mr. Lamhut was a member of Congregation Bnai Brith Jacob. He was a United States Army veteran. He worked for many years at Nat's Men & Boys and later for Heyman and Son. Mr. Lamhut was the oldest living member of the Veterans Council of Chatham County where he was named Veteran of the Year in 1986. He volunteered on many Veterans Council committees including the committee to bring the VA Clinic to Savannah and the committee to relocate the Flame of Freedom from the county court house to its present location. Mr. Lamhut volunteered for 19 years at the VA Clinic and, on his 100th birthday, the VA Clinic honored him for his years of service. He was a Past Commander of the Jewish War Veterans Post 320. Mr. Lamhut enjoyed growing tangerines, grapefruit, figs and pomegranates. His greatest love was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.



In addition to his wife of almost 74 years and his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Anne, Gertrude 'Gertie' and Molly, and two brothers, Louis 'Lou' and Mandel 'Manny'.



Survivors include two daughters, Faye Brill and Sherry Spevack and her husband, Michael; one son, Lester Lamhut; three grandchildren, Mark Brill, Louis Spevack and Janine Kaiser and her husband, Michael; two great-grandchildren, Naliyah Kaiser and Lincoln Kaiser, and nieces and nephews.



The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus.
