Mildred Knausman Cropper

d. January 5, 2016

Mildred Caroline Cropper, age 96, of Richmond Hill, Georgia and widow of Ellis Russell Crapper, died Tuesday morning January 5, 2016 at Hospice Savannah after a prolonged illness.

Born in Ridgewood (Queens County), New York City, she was the only child of the late Henry Knausman and the late Elizabeth Fackner Knausman.

Mildred was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, most recently Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church in Richmond Hill. Mildred lived life to the fullest, was known for her cheerfulness, a ready smile and a positive attitude. She called several places home. While living in Bayside, New York she was active in the church, created craft items for their yearly bazaar and served as president of WELCA. Mildred made many close friends through her career as an Avon sales representative. She played cards with the neighborhood women, enjoyed gardening and sewing. She and her husband spent many summers camping and traveling throughout the United States and Canada and numerous winters exploring Mexico. Upon retiring Mildred and Ellis whiled away the summer months gardening and boating on Sunset Lake in New Hampshire and the winter months in St. James City, Florida. While in Florida, Mildred volunteered at the local museum and for Pine Island FISH (fellow islanders sending help). She also enjoyed her craft and quilting groups. After the passing of her husband, Mildred moved to Magnolia Manor in Richmond Hill where she embraced the many activities offered there and made many new friends. Mildred lived there for nine years until moving to Hospice Savannah.

Surviving are two sons, Ellis H. Cropper and his wife Shelle of Friday Harbor, Washington and Keith R. Cropper of Whitestone, New York; a daughter, Carol E. Obenshain and her husband Kenneth of Richmond Hill, Georgia; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
