Michael Francis Mccarthy,

d. October 21, 2022

Michael Francis McCarthy, Sr., 90, of Thunderbolt, Georgia died October 21, 2022 at his home with his loving wife of 69 years, Charlotte Wolfe McCarthy, and his family by his side.

Born November 22, 1931 in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of the late Charles Harold McCarthy and the late Nadine Clarice Solterie McCarthy. Michael was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Church and, later, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church for 65 years. He attended Cathedral Day School and Benedictine Military School. Michael and Charlotte, high school sweethearts, married in April of 1953 in Savannah at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. Michael marched in the Savannah St. Patrick\'s Day parade every year from grade school through 2019. He loved his Irish heritage and was a member of the Fenian Society. Michael worked as a machinist at multiple locations, retiring from Stone Container.

Michael had many hobbies including playing golf with the Old Timers, attending BC football games, woodworking - making furniture for his children and grandchildren, gardening - always sharing his harvests, and, of course, fishing and crabbing. Michael and Charlotte loved to be on the water together, always involving fishing and crabbing. An annual highlight for Michael and Charlotte, as well as the extended McCarthy and Wolfe families, was an Easter Sunday family reunion, including a legendary Easter egg hunt, that Michael and Charlotte hosted at their home.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles Harold McCarthy, Sr.; sister, Mary Anne McCarthy Aliotta; son, Michael Francis McCarthy, Jr.; son-in-law, Gary Chambers; and great granddaughter Alannah Marie Madera.

He is survived by wife, Charlotte Wolfe McCarthy; two daughters, Julie McCarthy Chambers Pittman and her husband Tommy, Teri McCarthy Goolsby and her husband Scott; four sons, Pat McCarthy and his wife Gail, David McCarthy and his wife Fran, Tim McCarthy and his wife Janet, and Chris McCarthy and his wife Karen; nineteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren with one on the way; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Tuesday, October 25 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, with rosary starting at 6:30 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 26 at 10:00 am with burial to follow at Bonaventure Cemetery.
