Michael 'Mike' Karl Cress, 49, of Rincon, Georgia and husband of Aimee Swing Cress, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, July 13, 2020, at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Alton, Illinois, on January 24, 1971, he was a son of Rex Karl Cress and Sharon Kay Patton Cress. Mike attended schools in Alton and moved to St. Simons Island for his freshman year at Glynn Academy in Brunswick. He graduated from Glynn Academy in the summer of 1989 and was in the National Honor Society all of his High School years. Mike attended Georgia Southern University for 2 years and earned his BS degree from Armstrong State in Savannah in 1994.
Mike was a devout Christian and an active member and a volunteer at Compassion Christian Church in Rincon. He owned and operated Turf Tamers. Mike loved all sports: especially Atlanta Braves baseball and the Pittsburg Steelers. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and hunting. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, son-in-law, uncle, and a friend to many wonderful people.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Albert and Opal Patton and Bill and Lucille Cress, and an uncle, Bill Cress.
Survivors include his wife, Aimee Swing Cress of Rincon; his mother and father, Rex Karl Cress and Sharon Kay Patton Cress of Pooler; his mother-in-law, Mary Howard of Rincon; his sister, Amy Hartley (Bryan) of Pooler; his brother, Todd Cress (Amy) of Godfrey, Illinois; nephews, Clint Cress of Godfrey and Caden and Conner Hartley, both of Pooler; niece, Carly Cress of Godfrey; his aunts, Aleta Cress, Martha Stuker, Doris Cress and Sue Patton; uncles, Larry Stuker and Harold Patton, and cousins.
With concern for the safety and health of our family and friends, a private memorial service will be held in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the GoFundMe account which has been set up in Mike's name.
