Michael Andrew Coury, 48, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 22, 2023. He was born December 30, 1974 in Louisville, KY to Ella Jean Balciar Coury and Fred Jacob Coury (whom both preceded him in death). He married the love of his life Amy Hunter Coury on July 5, 2008. In addition to Amy, Mike was also survived by his daughter Michelle Kanke, adorable grandson Merlin, siblings Elmer “Chico” Coury, Katrina Coury, Andrea Coury (Tom), Mother figure Cathy Lona and best friend Michael Lona, and an extension of aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Mike had an infectious smile and a gentle spirit. He loved his wife Amy and upheld a deep commitment to their marriage. There was nothing more important to him than God, his sobriety, and family. Michael was known as Kentucky Mike to his Savannah friends. He enjoyed his daily outings with his German Shepherd Bandit and his routine Starbucks Coffee stop. The highlight of his week was visiting his grandson on Saturdays. Being Merlin’s “Popo” was a great joy in his life. He was an active member of AA and a mentor to many men. Mike lived his life on the principal: “be nice to everyone” and AA Rule 62: “Don’t take yourself too damn seriously.” He had a love for music and had recently started guitar lessons. His retirement plan was to grow his hair out, learn to play guitar and join a rock band. The celebration of life will be held on Saturday, December 2nd from 12-2pm at Gamble Funeral Home on Stephenson Ave.
