Meta Gignilliat Carswell was born January 22, 1942 in Savannah Georgia and she went to be with the Lord and her Savior Jesus Christ in heaven on Saturday March 8th,2025.
She passed away comfortably at Memorial healthcare center in Savannah, Georgia, where she was well taken care of.
Meta was a woman with priorities. She loved her faith, family, friends and work. Meta accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior on November 3, 1984 and was baptized on November 4, 1984. This decision and the way she lived her life for the Lord was an example to be followed. She was willing at any moment to share with others what the Lord had done for her in her life. She left her family with the greatest gift, which is the hope and comfort that she is in heaven with the Lord today and will be reunited with her friends and family, who believe, again.
Meta loved her family. She is survived by her husband, John Carswell. She and John enjoyed traveling around the world to different cities and countries together, but one of their favorite things to do was to share lunch together, which usually consisted of a hot dog at Savannah Harbor Golf Club. Meta is also survived by her brother Robert Gignilliat, her son Byron Colley, her daughter-in-law Ashley Colley and her three grandchildren Grant Colley, Hamilton Colley and Pierce Colley. She was a devoted and committed wife, mother and grandmother. Meta always enjoyed seeing her grandchildren perform in the theater or playing basketball, tennis and baseball.
Meta loved to garden and spend time with her friends. Her green thumb and plants were the envy of all. She enjoyed her weekly ladies group ( Pam Karacostas, Ellen Bradley, Linda Cox, Peggy Zeigler, and Cheryl Kimbal ) where they played Rummicube and went to movies, she enjoyed the popcorn more than the movie. She was a wonderful hostess to her friends which was evident by her annual Christmas party. Her dedication to her family and friends will always be remembered as an example to others.
Meta enjoyed her work, which included serving and leading. She particularly enjoyed her time working with Dr. Jules, Dr. Bubba Victor , and Dr. Ben Watson where she was the office manager for many years. She loved helping people and used her work to be an ambassador for Christ.
Meta will be missed by her family and friends, but the hope that those that are believers is that we will worship with her again one day and all of God‘s glory.
The family would also like to thank Pamela and Anthony Jerral for there round the clock availability to take care of Meta, Dloris Johnson and Kathryn Scott for taking care of all the cooking at the house and Vida Martinez for taking care of Meta through the evening. The family is grateful for the selfless service all of these people gave to Meta while under their care.
