SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Melba Burroughs Fischer, 92, of Savannah, Georgia, widow of Fred Franklin Fischer, died Monday morning, April 4, 2011, at Memorial University Medical Center.
Born in Cobbtown, Georgia, August 10, 1918 she was a daughter of the late Rudolphus Simon Burroughs and the late Dora Deloach Burroughs and grew up Collins, Georgia. Mrs. Fischer graduated from Berry College. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith and a homemaker; a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her faith and her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Fischer Haynes.
Surviving are three sons, Fred F. Fischer, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia, Gary S. Fischer and his wife, Inja, of Puyallup, Washington, and Kevin S. Fischer and his wife, Marguerite, of Savannah, Georgia; five grandchildren, Marla W. Perry and her husband, John, Heidi O. Balladares and her husband, Walter, Bryan D. Haynes, Joshua, Alan and Natalie Fischer and four great-grandchildren, Kathryn and Madelyn Emmick, Amanda and Lydia Perry along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday evening at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue.
Funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Elder Jack M. Anderson. Interment will be at 2:30 Thursday afternoon in Collins Baptist Church cemetery in Collins, Georgia.
