Maxine A. McElveen, 90, widow of George Gordon McElveen after 60 years of marriage, surrendered to eternal life with him Thursday evening, June 2, 2022.
She was preceded by her parents, James M. and Alma B. Arnold, and a daughter Deborah McElveen.
Survivors: 4 daughters, Sharon (Cary) Gabrielson, Kathryn Wasdin, Lisa (Larry) McLeod, and Michelle (Wes) Cooper of Corpus Christi, Texas; 1 son Tony (Tina) McElveen of Elgin, S.C., sister Dot Waters of Claxton, and two brothers, Bill Arnold and Bob (Grace) Arnold of Savannah; 5 grandchildren Barry (Dawn) Gabrielson, Sherrie (Phil) Metsker, Robert (Lauren) Collum, Shawn Wall, and Beth Davis; 10 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
She retired in 1997 from the Bridal and Catering business and moved to Claxton to assist in caring for her aging mother.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Claxton, past president of the Wesleyan Fellowship Group, past president of United Methodist Women, past secretary of Claxton Lion's Club and Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 300. She returned to Savannah and the Savannah Christian Church (now Compassion Christian Church) in 2010.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 o'clock Monday morning, June 6, 2022 at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning, June 6, 2022, in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service, conducted by the Reverend Steve Angel. Interment will be in the Greenwich section of Bonaventure Cemetery.
