Matthew James Maher, 61, died Thursday morning, November 27, 2014, at his home after a 3 year courageous battle with cancer and COPD.
He was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Savannah with his parents as a teen. He graduated from Jenkins High School and has been the chef and owner of City Market Cafe for the past 20 years.
Matthew is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Dorothy Maher, and his three brothers, Stephen, Peter, and Thom.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kathy Jacobs Maher and his 2 sons, Leighton Matthew (Jaime), and Brian James Maher, all of Savannah; sister-in-law, Chrys Maher of Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:30 o\'clock Monday at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church conducted by The Reverend Jason P. Adams. Interment will be private.
