Marylin Youmans, a long-time resident of Savannah, passed away on Sunday, March 20, 2016, at her home surrounded by family.
Born in Rhine, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late George Lawton Youmans and the late Maree Beatrice Beecher Youmans. Marylin was of the Baptist faith. As a teenager, she opened her own dance studio, Marylin Youmans School of Dance, which has become a landmark in the area. She dedicated her life to sharing her passion of dance with almost every little girl, and many boys, who lived in the area. Many generations have walked through those very same doors on 37th Street. This summer the studio will celebrate its 80th dance recital. She taught many more lessons in life than just how to point toes and tap heels as she loved, inspired, and mentored all of her students as they were her own children. For her devotion to her community, Marylin was awarded the Key to the City by then Savannah Mayor, John P. Rousakis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her four siblings, Marguerite Parrish, Beatrice Kleinpeter, George L. Youmans and Carl H. Youmans.
She is survived by her daughter, Marylin Daniels and her husband, Robert; her grandchildren, Marylin Jacobs and her husband, Benjamin, Robert Daniels III and his wife, Jennifer, Kelly Houston and Tricia Lee and her husband, Matt; nine great-grandchildren, Christopher, Kayley and Kimberly Jacobs, Rob, Erin and Emily Daniels, Thomas and Cassady Houston, and Daniel Lee; several nieces and nephews; and thousands of dancers.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Wednesday at Gamble Funeral Service ' 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.
The funeral service will be held at 10 o'clock Thursday morning in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by The Reverend B. Derward Poole, Jr. Interment will be in Hillcrest Abbey ' East.
