Mary Doris Lyon Sanborn, 93, of Guyton, Georgia and widow of GySgt Carl Oliver Sanborn, Jr., United States Marine Corps (Ret.), died Saturday afternoon, April 29, 2017, at Hospice Savannah, Savannah, Georgia.
Doris, a native of North Carolina, was born at Lyon's Landing, Elizabethtown, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Karl Victor Lyon and the late Bessie Moseley Robeson Lyon. Doris was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Havelock, North Carolina. She was the former bookkeeper/accountant at Trinity Presbyterian Day Care Center, Havelock, NC. Doris also was a North Carolina member of the Daughters of Founders and Patriots of the American Revolution (DFPAR). Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and aunt.
Surviving are her children, Martha McKenzie Lease of Cary, North Carolina, Robert Lyon McKenzie and his wife, Darlene Denney McKenzie, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Rachel Sanborn Huie and her husband, Earl Best Huie, Jr., of Raleigh, North Carolina, Suzanne Sanborn Rushing and her husband, William Patrick Rushing, of Guyton, Georgia, and Holly Sanborn Dyar and her husband, Walter Roswell Dyar, of Kingston, Massachusetts; nine grandchildren, Charity Shick and her husband, Matthew Shick, Faith Blackwood and her husband, Phillip Blackwood, Alexandra Price and her husband, Daniel Price, Samantha Dyar, Hailey Huie, David Huie, Andrew Rushing, Sydney Rushing and Morgan Rushing; four great-grandchildren, Caitlin Blackwood, Marianne Blackwood, Julia Blackwood and Brian Blackwood; one brother, Karl Victor Lyon, Jr. and his wife, Nell Skinner Lyon, of Lumberton, North Carolina, and five nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, May 6, 2017, at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Monday morning, May 8, 2017, at the graveside, New Bern National Cemetery in New Bern, North Carolina.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice Savannah, Inc., Hospice House, 1352 Eisenhower Drive, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, Georgia 31416.
