SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Mary Ostrom Pilcher, 100, of Savannah, Georgia and widow of Theodore Clay Pilcher, died Sunday evening, September 2, 2012, at Summer Breeze Assisted Living and under the care of Hospice Savannah.



A native of Indianapolis, Miss Ostrom married Theodore C. Pilcher and moved to his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia in 1934. A part of the \"Greatest Generation\", Mrs. Pilcher bore the economic hardships of the Great Depression and later shouldered the burden and heartaches of having a husband serving overseas during the Second World War.



Mrs. Pilcher, along with her husband, was a faithful member of Second Presbyterian Church of Norfolk. For twelve years she accompanied her husband to Richmond every year while he served in the Virginia General Assembly. Mrs. Pilcher took great pleasure in gardening and served for many years as the president of the local garden club.



After the death of her husband in 1985, Mrs. Pilcher moved to Savannah to live with her daughter, Sue Pierce. She joined Wilmington Island Methodist Church and seldom missed Sunday School or the Women\'s Circle meetings.



Mrs. Pilcher will be remembered as a faithful servant of the Lord and a generous steward of all her blessings.



She is survived by a daughter, Sue Pierce; grandson, James R. Pierce and his wife, Christine 'Christy'; granddaughter, Susan P. Woods and her husband, Wallace Woods, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Mark Pierce and his wife, Catherine, Jamie Pierce, Wallace Woods III, David Woods and Katheryn Woods.



The memorial service will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday in Wilmington Island United Methodist Church conducted by The Reverend James Sapp. Interment will be held at 1 o'clock this (Friday) in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk, Virginia.
