Mary Douglas Mittner Lewis, 79, of Savannah, Georgia and formerly of Buffalo, New York, died Thursday evening, June 28, 2018, at Hospice Savannah after a brief illness.



Born May 24, 1939 in Buffalo, N.Y. she is the beloved daughter of the late Henry W. and Mary Wren (Douglas) Mittner. She is the sister of the late Robert Livingston (Kathleen P.) Mittner. Devoted mother of James (Tina) Lewis and the late Alan Lewis. She is also survived by granddaughters Kristy and Ashley Lewis, and great-granddaughters Dakota Lewis and Eryka Lewis all of Atlanta, Georgia. Survived also by her first cousin Sandra Douglas. She is the dearest aunt of Patricia A. (William) Friend, Dawn M. (Michael) Ginnetti, Thomas R. (Linda) Mittner, Robert D. (Gloria) Mittner (of St. Petersburg, Florida), Christine F. (Wade Jewell) Mittner, as well as dozens of great nieces and nephews most living in Buffalo, N.Y. and the surrounding WNY area. She is lifelong friend of Janet and Al (deceased) Tallman and like a second mom to Eddie and Donnie Tallman. She leaves behind her close friends Bernadette Meyers and Larry Stuber who has been steadfastly by her side during her final days here on earth.



Mary moved to Atlanta Ga. from Buffalo, N.Y. with her two sons forty-five years ago, later settling in Savannah, Ga. She was employed by Tallman Pools for many years. After moving to Savannah, Mary was a dedicated EMC Engineering Services, Inc. employee in the administrative department from 1990 until her retirement in 2009. She will be remembered at EMC as the lady in charge of monthly employee birthdays and the chief organizer of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, St. Patrick's Day festivities annually for many years. She belonged to the Savannah Shag Club and enjoyed music and dancing with the group. She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church where she helped in the Fidelis Sunday School Class and nursery and led the Prayer Shawl knitting ministry.



There will be a memorial service to celebrate Mary's life at 11:30 Thursday morning, July 12, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church - 520 Washington Avenue, with a reception to follow. Burial will be on Friday, July ??13, 2018, in Jonesboro Cemetery in Jonesboro, Georgia, resting peacefully along side of her son, Alan.

Mary Lewis was a fun person with a contagious laugh and an unwavering devotion to family and friends. She will be remembered for her love of life, but most especially for her sweet, kind, thoughtful and selfless nature.
