Mary Elizabeth Flaherty, 86, of Savannah, Georgia, died Sunday morning, July 19, 2015, at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late Patrick Joseph Flaherty and the late Mary Fenton Flaherty. Miss Flaherty was a communicant of St. James Catholic Church. Her mother died when Mary was 15 and, Mary being the oldest child, raised her five siblings while managing to finish high school and then business school. She retired as the secretary to the president of Jordan Marsh Company. Mary was mentally active and remained up on current events until her recent illness.
Survivors include her brother, John Flaherty and his wife, Sandra, of Edgewater, Florida; her sister-in-law, Betsy B. Bratz and her husband, Paul, of Savannah, Georgia, and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 o'clock Friday at St. James Catholic Church conducted by Father Mark J. Ross. Interment will be at 11 o'clock Monday morning, July 27, 2015, in New Calvary Cemetery in Mattapan, Massachusetts.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful ladies from Comfort Keepers and the Eucharistic Ministers from St. James Catholic Church who made Mary's days in Savannah so full.
