Mary Haney Caputo, 68, of Savannah, Georgia and wife of Louis F. Caputo, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2013, at her home on the Isle of Hope.
Mary was born June 17, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, daughter of the late John H. Haney and the late Elyner Tierney Haney. She graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School and received her RN from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. Following her marriage to Lou in 1967, Mary continued her nursing career in Kalamazoo, Michigan. After relocating with her growing family to Savannah in 1979, she joined the nursing staff of Memorial Health University Medical Center in the Emergency and Radiology Departments and retired from Memorial in 1999.
Staff and patients of all the hospitals in which Mary worked remember a dedicated 'angel of mercy' who so energetically worked as a responsible health care provider. Her humor, enthusiasm and candor won over all who met her. A harder working professional could hardly be found and she readily earned the respect of co-workers. Long after retirement, Mary still gained accolades from former colleagues and patients. Her sparkling eyes and eager smiles characterized a true Irish lass. Mary will be profoundly missed as her passing leaves a deep sorrow with those who loved her dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Eleanor Ford Wagner and Mary Susan Haney.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Louis, are two sons, Daniel L. Caputo (Donna) of Cochran, Georgia and Michael J. Caputo (Laura) of Savannah; seven grandchildren, Kyle, Caroline, Chara and Shayla of Cochran and Emma, Connor and Jack, all of Savannah; two sisters, Mary Kathleen Haney of Charleston, South Carolina, and Mary Jean Haney of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina; nephews, Brian and Timothy Ford, Andrew and Eric Miller; a niece, Emily Antoinette Shivetts; sisters-in-law, Lo-Rita Miller (Robert), Janice Shivetts (David), and Joyce Lloyd (Tom).
