Mary Glover Burke

d. May 13, 2015

Mary Louise Glover Burke, 90, of Savannah, Georgia, died peacefully in her sleep Wednesday morning, May 13, 2015.

Born in Washington County, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late John Will Glover and the late Mary Frances Salter Glover. Growing up on her family's working farm during the struggles of the Great Depression, Mrs. Burke learned the value of hard work at an early age. This trait served her well throughout her life. It allowed her to persevere as a single mother tirelessly working multiple jobs to selflessly create a foundation for the successful lives of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Always one to put others before herself, Ms. Mary'as she was known to those outside her family'could always find a dime, a dollar or a pair of shoes when someone was in need of help. She saw a Christian life and social responsibility as irrevocably linked ideas and tried every day to live her life as a reflection of God's Grace.

Mrs. Burke was a founding member of Louisiana Avenue Church of Christ here in Savannah. She retired as a department manager after 30 years of service with F. W. Woolworth Company. Not one to sit at home, Mrs. Burke later retired from the bakery and as a greeter for Kroger Company. Nana, as she was known to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, loved her family more than anything else in the world. Her greatest joy was spending time them and welcoming each new generation with unconditional love. Mrs. Burke was especially rooted to her old home place. She loved to spend time 'up home' sitting and reminiscing about a time passed.

Surviving are one daughter, Brenda P. Clements and her husband, Bill, of Savannah, Georgia; one son, Larry Burke and his wife, Evelyn, of Savannah, Georgia; four grandchildren, Joseph Gulotta (Karen Matthews), Carl Gulotta (Latrell Gulotta), Daniel P. Burke (Keri Sowers) and Kathleen M. Burke; eight great-grandchildren, Jaris Gulotta, Robert Gulotta, Haley Gulotta, Carmen Gulotta, Carl 'C. J.' Gulotta, Jr., Ella Burke, Lawrence McCarren and Leya McCarren, and two great-great-grandchildren, A'mya Gilbert and Amari Gilbert.
