Mary Willene Allen Burgess, 79, of Savannah, Georgia passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, March 22, 2013, at St. Joseph's Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Lyons, Georgia on May 3, 1933, the daughter of Willie Lewis and Alsie Lee Morris Allen.
Mary was predeceased by her husband John S. Burgess, Jr.; two sisters, Annette Allen and Faye Allen Robertson; two daughters, Alice Taylor and Cheryl A. Burgess Foskey; one son, Danny E. Burroughs.
She is survived by two daughters, Jacquelyn M. Burroughs Hassel of Savannah and Karen R. Burgess Wandstrat and her husband, Greg, of Cincinnati, Ohio; one son, John S. Burgess III and his wife, Tammy, of Stilson, Georgia; one sister, Martha L. Carn of Savannah, Georgia; twelve grandchildren; forty great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mary was a Baptist and worked at Leopold\'s Ice Cream Parlor in the late 1940\'s and later worked at Big Star Grocery Chain. Then she worked as an Avon representative for many years and her achievements won her membership in the President\'s Club.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o'clock Monday evening at Gamble Funeral Service - 410 Stephenson Avenue.
The funeral service will be held at 12 noon Tuesday in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service. Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
