Mary Helen 'Nell' Bonaud, 80, of Savannah, Georgia, died Wednesday morning, August 5, 2015, at her Isle of Hope home.
Born in Savannah on June 23, 1935 to Eugene 'Chief' Bonaud and Mary Hollis Bonaud, Nell married Von H. Whitlock on August 5, 1957 and had 4 children. In 1967 the Air Force moved the family from Georgia to Anchorage, Alaska where Nell taught English and Reading for 30 years in the Anchorage School District. After retiring in 1996, Nell and her second husband, David Hylton Bonaud, traveled between Alaska and Savannah until his death in 2004. After over 47 years in Alaska, in early 2015 Nell and her daughter Mary Elizabeth Bonaud moved back to Isle of Hope with their 4 dogs.
Nell is survived by daughters, Mary Elizabeth of Savannah and Amrit Kaur Khalsa of Anchorage; son-in-law, Siri Hari Hari Singh Khalsa of Anchorage; grandchildren: Brian Szender, Buffalo, NY; Sean Proctor, Rincon, GA; Jennifer and Katherine Proctor, Columbus, GA; mother-in-law Lydia Hylton and step-children Leofric, Jaime, and Alanna Hylton, all of Oregon; niece Mary Taber Butler, Beaufort, SC; nephew Stuart Taber, Columbia, SC.
Nell was preceded in death by her husband David; her daughter, Jeanne Marie Proctor; her son, Jonathan Bonaud Whitlock, and her sister, Joy Taber Meyer.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at Our Lady of Good Hope Chapel - 16 Rosenbrook Avenue on Isle of Hope. A reception will follow her service. Private interment will be in Bonaventure Cemetery.
Nell loved dogs so in lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Humane Society or SPCA of your choice.
