Mary Anne McCarthy Aliotta, 86, of Thunderbolt, Georgia and widow of Frank Rizza Aliotta, died Thursday evening, April 29, 2021, at her home with her family by her side.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late Charles Harold McCarthy and the late Nadine Clarice Solterie McCarthy. Mary Anne was a faithful communicant of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church for 60 years. She was a devout Catholic who attended daily mass and recited the Rosary every morning and night. Mary Anne's unshakable faith was evidenced by her worn Novenas, which she read every day. She graduated from St. Vincent's Academy in 1952 and from St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. Mary Anne was the youngest operating room nurse at the Marine Hospital; however, her greatest work was raising her family. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and Nana. Mary Anne always put everyone else first seldom missing an event that involved her family. She enjoyed crabbing and the beach, and she was affectionately known by her family as the Queen of Crabbing.
In addition to her husband of 29 years and her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Harold McCarthy, Jr. and two nephews, Michael Francis McCarthy, Jr. and Anthony Francis Aliotta.
Survivors include two daughters, Dina Aliotta Watson and her husband, Andy, of Tybee Island, Georgia, and Lucia Aliotta McCarthy and her husband, Kevin, of Savannah, Georgia; one son, Antonino 'Nino' Aliotta II and his wife, Brandy, of Savannah, Georgia; eight grandchildren, Bridget McCarthy, Thomas McCarthy, Zachary Watson, Rachel Watson, Brenton Aliotta, Anna Grace Aliotta, Olivia Aliotta, and Antonino 'Nino' Aliotta III; one brother, Michael Francis McCarthy and his wife, Charlotte, of Savannah, Georgia; her sister-in-law, Patricia McCarthy of Savannah, Georgia, and nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 o'clock Sunday, May 2, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church ' 1003 East Victory Drive, Savannah, with the Rosary at 7 o'clock.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 o'clock Monday morning, May 3, 2021, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church conducted by Monsignor P. James Costigan, Father David A. Koetter, and Father Kim Son Nguyen. Interment will be in the Catholic Cemetery.
