Marvin Vernon Jenkins, 79, of Savannah, Georgia, died Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2016, at Hospice Savannah.
He was a native of Jenkins County, Georgia and was reared in Augusta. Mr. Jenkins earned a Master's degree in English in 1967 at UGA and began a teaching career at Armstrong State University in September 1968. He taught for 30 years in the English department as a tenured assistant professor, retiring in 1997. In 1998, Mr. Jenkins was given emeritus status, the highest honor for retired faculty. An accomplished pianist, he devoted his life to music, classical Greek literature, and teaching where he shared his love for the intricacies of language and the written word.
