Martin Cohen, 92, of Savannah, Georgia, husband of Susan Cohen and father of Andrew Cohen, died Wednesday morning, January 20, 2021 at St. Joseph's Hospital.
Born in Cologne, Germany, he was the son of the late Henrich Cohen and the late Jettchen (Jette) Simon Cohen. His family fled Nazi Germany to the British Mandate for Palestine where he served bravely in the Israeli War of Independence.?? In 1950 he migrated to the US where he earned a Masters Degree from Colombia University.?? Martin was an avid reader, loved to study and teach history and languages, and had a great sense of humor.?? He enjoyed a successful career as a chemical engineer, most recently with Union Camp/International Paper in Savannah.??
Martin was the loved husband for 49 years of Susan Cohen, father of Andrew, father-in-law of Mandy, and beloved grandfather (Saba) to Hugo, Gatsby, and Sienna.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister, Ruth Wolff, of Framingham, Massachusetts.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon, January 21, 2021, at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery.
