SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Martha Schiffer Lichtman, 82, of Savannah, Georgia, wife of Jack Lichtman, died Friday afternoon, March 9, 2012 at Hospice Savannah.
Born in Hungary, she was a daughter of the late Erno Schiffer and the late Gabriella Neumann Schiffer. Mrs. Lichtman and her family moved to The Lower East Side of New York as Holocaust Refugees. During her High School years, she worked part time in a war effort factory that made various articles for the troops during World War II. Martha and Jack married in 1949 and raised three children in a loving Jewish home. Mrs. Lichtman was a member of the Young Israel of Hillcrest for many years. She was a great cook, loved to travel and to spending time with her family. She will be missed by all.
Surviving are her husband, Jack Lichtman, of Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Debra Feuer and her husband, Marvin, of Bethesda, Maryland, Linda Caine and her husband, Robert, of Washington, DC; one son, Michael Lichtman and his wife, Stephanie, of Savannah, Georgia; one sister, Vicky Sprecher and her husband, Benny, of Jerusalem, Israel; one brother, Robert Schiffer and his wife, Marlena, of California; eight grandchildren, David, Rachel, Danny, Paul, Marc, Eric, Sophie, Isaac and one great grandchild, Ella.
The funeral service will be held at the graveside, Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens, New York.
