Marshall Robert Wood

d. September 23, 2018

Marshall Robert Wood died peacefully at home in Savannah, Georgia on September 22, 2018 after living with cancer for five years.

He was born March 23, 1945 to George Leach Wood and Margaret Stonesifer Wood and raised in Louisville, Kentucky through his graduation from Seneca High School (1963). He graduated from Vanderbilt University (1967) and Emory University Law School (1970) and became a resident of Savannah in 1970 where he practiced Law for 30 years.

Starting in 1996, he instructed students at Armstrong Atlantic University as an adjunct professor and discovered a love for being an educator. It was through teaching and coaching at Savannah Christian Preparatory School (2001-2015) that he shared his passion for writing, civics, history, democracy, and athletics with students and colleagues.

In the community, Marshall coached youth sports and was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church for 48 years. In everything he did, relationships mattered. Family, friends, and the community were his priority.

We will miss his love, his calm strength, his friendship, and the stories he told to engage us in the moment and connect us through the tapestry of his life. Marshall's life will be celebrated by Lynn, his wife of 51 years and love of his life, his children Sarah Collier and Jeffrey Wood (Lisa), his grandchildren Olivia and Vivienne, his brother G. Wallace 'Wally' Wood (Patty), his aunt Anne Wood, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to join the family at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church on September 29, 2018 for visitation at 11:00am and his memorial service at 12:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances in honor of Marshall may be sent to Hospice Savannah Foundation or St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
