Marshall Noah Katz, 84, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and husband of Arlene Slater Katz, died Sunday afternoon, March 6, 2016, peacefully at his home.
Born August 17, 1931, he was true Southern Gentlemen that was born in Columbia, South Carolina. Mr. Katz graduated from Georgia Tech as a civil engineer and served in Korea with great distinction. He went into a family steel business and became president of Trojan Steel Corporation and president of the Virginia Carolinas Steel Fabricators. He also served as president of Beth Shalom Synagogue in Columbia, South Carolina. After selling his company, he headed up the steel for the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. Later, as a consultant for a German Steel Company, Mr. Katz traveled the world to 57 different countries. After retiring to Hilton Head Island in 1973, he was elected to the Broad Creek Public service district as a water commissioner and served 15 years as chairman. He was a founding member of Congregation Beth Yam and supported many charities.
He leaves his beloved wife, Arlene of 62 years; four children, Sol Katz (Yara), Donna Katz, Valerie Shore (Scott), and Robin Brody (Lawrence); and wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Tamara and Yehoshua Friedman (Tali, Noam, David), Jacob and Chani Shore (Eliyahu, Yosef, Asher), Daniel Brody, Sarah Shore, Eliana Shore (Ariella), Louis Brody, Benjamin Katz and Noah Katz.
He was loved and respected by all who knew him for his kindness, wisdom and friendship.
The funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Congregation Beth Yam ' 4501 Meeting Street on Hilton Head Island conducted by Rabbi Brad Bloom. Interment will be in Six Oaks Cemetery.
