Marsha Leiken Gould, 63, of Savannah, Georgia and wife of Jerren 'Jay' Gould, died Tuesday morning, April 22, 2014, at her home surrounded by her family and under the care of Hospice Savannah.
Born in Streator, Illinois, she was a daughter of the late Isadore I. Leiken and Mollie Kramer Leiken. Marsha was a member of Congregation Mickve Israel.
Marsha received her B.A. from the University of Florida and her Master's degree from the University of North Carolina, where she met her future husband, Jay. They were married on July 8, 1973 under a chuppa in Peoria, Illinois. They moved to Claremont, California to begin their new life. Her career as a speech pathologist took a hiatus to nurture and develop their two children, Margalit and Jerrik. Their lives passed through Huntsville, Alabama, Oak Hill, Virginia, and Tucson, Arizona. They retired to Bald Head Island, North Carolina and then on to Savannah, where she fell in love with her home, Savannah's cultural activities, and The Landings community.
Marsha loved being a mother, a companion with Jay, traveling the world, playing bridge and golf.?? She was a sports fan, rooting for the Cubs, the Bears, and her beloved Tar Heels basketball team.
Throughout her illness, she fought against her cancer bravely and without complaint. She did her best to make the situation easier for her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband Jay, of Savannah; one daughter, Margalit C. Gould of Chicago, Illinois; one son, Jerrik J. Gould of Chicago, Illinois; her mother, Mollie Kramer Leiken of Bloomington, Illinois, and one brother, N. Ned Leiken of Bloomington, Illinois.
The funeral service will be held at 11 o'clock Friday morning at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Robert W. Haas.
