It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Dr. Mark Mudd, age 52, on May 17, 2024, after a brief illness. Mark died peacefully with his devoted husband, Douglas Orr, by his side.
Mark was a beloved veterinarian at Flemington Veterinary Hospital, where he dedicated his life to the care and well-being of countless animals. His passion for animals was evident in everything he did, and his compassion and expertise earned him the love and respect of the community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Born in Leitchfield, Kentucky, Mark was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, class of 1994, and received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1998. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps from 2002 to 2005, bringing his skill and dedication to both his country and his profession.
Mark was known not only for his professional dedication but also for his great sense of humor. His ability to bring laughter and joy to those around him was a cherished aspect of his personality.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred Mudd. He is survived by his loving husband, Douglas Orr; his father, Willard Mudd; his siblings, Gordon Mudd (Tosha), Susan Miller (Noble), and Vicki Wilson (Stanley); several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces. He cherished his family deeply and was a source of strength and love for them.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to K9 Battle Buddies in Hinesville, GA, in honor of Mark's love for animals and his service to his country.
A Celebration of Life party will be held in Mark's honor on Sunday, June 23rd, from 2 pm to 4 pm at the Fort McAllister State Park Group Shelter. There is a $5 fee per car to enter the park.
Mark’s legacy of compassion, dedication, and love for animals will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, tireless work ethic, great sense of humor, and unwavering kindness. Rest in peace, Dr. Mark Mudd. You will be dearly missed.
