Marjorie Joan Shelamer Smith, 82, beloved wife of Thomas Watson 'Tom' Smith, Jr., went to be with the Lord Monday evening, August 10, 2015, at her home and surrounded by her family.
Born in Columbia, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lionel Shelamer and the late Marjorie Clamp Shelamer. Mrs. Smith was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Savannah and a former longtime member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Hayesville, North Carolina. She was formerly with First Federal Savings and Loan and later a successful real estate broker in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mrs. Smith was also a financial advisor for the Christian Broadcast Network. She had a love for piano and singing. Mrs. Smith was a part of the Georgia Mountain Community Chorus and her church choir. She raised more children than she had and everyone she came in contact with loved her and came away touched by her. Jesus lived within her and His light shone through her. She was a true reflection of His love. Her family and friends adored her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Charles L. Shelamer.
Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Thomas Watson 'Tom' Smith, Jr. of Savannah, Georgia; two daughters, Lori Parker and her husband, Bill, of Bloomingdale, Georgia, and Karen Simms and her husband, Kevin, of Richmond Hill, Georgia; two sons, Rick Smith of Guyton, Georgia, and Mark Smith of Columbia, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Ryan Smith (Jessica), Aaron Smith, Miranda Smith, Justin Benassi and Joshua Smith; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Smith and Jaxon Smith; one brother, Shelley Lerane Shelamer (Judy) of Boise, Idaho, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at Gamble Funeral Service, 410 Stephenson Avenue, Savannah.
The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon in the chapel of Gamble Funeral Service conducted by Father Richard A. Nelson. Interment will be private.
