Marjorie Mobley Camp

d. August 31, 2012

SAVANNAH, GEORGIA - Marjorie (Margie) Virginia Mobley Camp, 87, died Friday, August 31, 2012, at Tara Nursing and Rehab under the care of Hospice Savannah. She was born on September 4, 1924, in Atlanta, GA, to the late Edith Eastmead Mobley and Dewey Hobson Mobley. Mrs. Camp grew up in Port Wentworth, GA, and graduated from Commercial High School in 1942. She married George Elliott Camp, Jr. in 1949, and they lived in Port Wentworth until his job with Texaco took them to Florida for several years. His retirement in 1981 allowed them to joyfully relocate to Savannah. During her years in Chatham County, Mrs. Camp was employed as a secretary extraordinaire for several local businesses including Southeastern Shipbuilding Corporation, Southern States Iron Roofing Company, Southern Nitrogen Company, and Kaiser Agricultural Chemicals.

Mrs. Camp was a former member of First Baptist Church of Port Wentworth and, at the time of her death, a member of First Christian Church in Savannah. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George, her son, G. David Camp, and her only sibling, Lewis C. 'Frog' Mobley. Mrs. Camp leaves the following survivors, all of Savannah: daughter, Diane Thompson; grandchildren, Leah Atkinson and her husband Ryan, Clark Burford, and Jeff Burford; and great-grandsons, Graham, John Henry (Jack), and Nicholas. She is also survived by three nephews, several cousins, and a number of dear, lifelong friends.

The family sends our heartfelt gratitude to the support staff at Tara Nursing and Rehab for their caring assistance and to the many compassionate nurses and CNA's in the Special Care Unit for their attentiveness and professionalism during Mrs. Camp's time at Tara. We will be indebted forever to her long-time caregivers, LPN Brenda Bryant, CNA Janet Croom, CNA Linda Germany, and to her earthly angel, CNA Pam Gaston (as well as her wonderful family), for all the ways in which they showed their affection for and devotion to our beloved mother/grandmother in her 'home away from home.'

A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at Hillcrest Abbey East, conducted by The Reverend Gary D. Cubbedge.

Remembrances: Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416-0190 or the charity of the donor's choice.
