Marion 'Tommy' Edward Thompson, Jr., 65, of Savannah, Georgia, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, July 15, 2020, at 31?? 36.207' N, 80?? 47.750' W.
Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was the son of Mildred 'Kitty' Gray Thompson and the late Marion 'Tommy' \"Chick\" Edward Thompson. Tommy is survived by his daughter, Emily 'Boo' and her husband, Jason, of Memphis, Tennessee; his mother, Mildred 'Kitty' Gray Thompson of Savannah; one sister, Kathryn DeLettre and her husband Dewey; two brothers, Gary Stephen Thompson, and Timothy \"Timmy\" G. Thompson and his wife Patricia, all of Savannah; nieces, nephews, and a great-nephew.
Those having the fortune of knowing Tommy appreciated the unassuming manner in which he interacted with all walks of life. Tommy instinctively overlooked material effects, preferring to engage in the plainspoken truth. In addition to being a devoted father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, he was, at his core, a selfless and compassionate man who would 'give a stranger the shirt off his back in the middle of a hurricane.' He enjoyed taking road trips to Tennessee to see his daughter, refurbishing boats, riding his motorcycle, and helping others. His lifelong avocation was scuba diving and fishing off the coast of Savannah.
A memorial service will be held at a later date when safe for family and friends to congregate to celebrate Tommy's life.
