Marion \"Tommy\" \"Chick\" Edward Thompson, 81, of Savannah, Georgia died Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Mildred \"Kitty\" Gray Thompson. They were married June 15, 1951 in San Clemente, California where he was stationed at Camp Pendleton.



Born in Savannah, Georgia, he was a son of the late James Robert Jesley Thompson and the late Ruth Hussey Thompson. Marion served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a salesman for Belk for over 30 years. Marion was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Pops, as he was known to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will always be remembered by his quick wit, his contagious smile, and his gentle spirit.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Allen Thompson.



In addition to his wife of 62 years, survivors include one daughter, Kathryn DeLettre and her husband, Dewey; three sons Marion \"Tommy\" E. Thompson, Jr., Gary Stephen Thompson, and Timothy \"Timmy\" G. Thompson and his wife Patricia, all of Savannah. Marion also left behind seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.



The family will receive friends from 10 until 11 o'clock Saturday morning at Southside Baptist Church.



The funeral service, with military honors, will be held at 11 o'clock Saturday morning at Southside Baptist Church conducted by The Reverend Dr. Allan W. Bosson. Interment will be private.
