Marion “Onion” Gray Harkleroad,Sr. 86, of Savannah, Georgia died Tuesday evening, October
10, 2023. Born at the saw mill camp in the Okefenokee Swamp, Georgia, he was the son of the
late Daniel Harkleroad and the late Ida Millican Harkleroad. Mr. Harkleroad was a communicant
of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Island’s
Council. He graduated from Bradwell Institute in Hinesville. Mr. Harkleroad retired from
Kemira and in his retirement years helped his son build Harkleroad Diamonds and Fine Jewelry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Remion Harkleroad and a
brother Wendell Harkleroad.
Surviving are: two daughters, Lisa Boswell and her husband Mark and Theresa Harkleroad; a
son, Marion, Jr. and his wife Stacey; seven grandchildren, Mark Boswell, Caleb Harkleroad,
Tristan Harkleroad, Gray Harkleroad, Kara Hill, Shane Bradshaw and Brooks Bradshaw; and
two great-granddaughters. Also surviving is a sister, Sue Rogers of Glennville and sister-in-law
Frances Harkleroad.
The family will receive friends and family from 5 until 7 o’clock Friday at St. Peter the Apostle
Catholic Church, 7020 Concord Rd, Savannah, GA 31410 with the Rosary service being held at
7 o’clock.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 o’clock Saturday morning at St. Peter the Apostle
Catholic Church conducted by the Reverend Michael Cavanaugh. Interment will be in the
Catholic Cemetery.
